Dangermuffin @ The Star Theatre

While it may be futile to try to define Dangermuffin’s sound, it is possible to pinpoint the themes that inspire much of the band’s music, and perhaps no theme is as prominent and consistent as nature, including the ocean, the sun, and the mountains...all ancient and powerful and capable of immeasurable and profound healing. These ideas, running like threads through almost every Dangermuffin album, together form the basis of some of the band’s most deeply held principles and teachings: respect the earth, stay open to the universe, and strive for healing. According to lyricist Dan Lotti, if Dangermuffin’s music could accomplish just one thing, it would be to heal.

The vocal-centric songs are delivered both via acoustic string band arrangements (think Greensky Bluegrass) and a drum-fueled groovy & fiery jam-influenced arrangement (think Goose), often within the same show! For the band and fans alike, this has led to some of Dangermuffin’s most inspired, exciting, and surprising performances of its career.

Rebecca porter & The Rhinestone roses @ The Star Theatre

Rebecca Porter embodies the soulful, lonesome sound of the Shenandoah Valley. After a decade of honing her craft as the frontwoman of local cover bands, she transformed pandemic loneliness into two EPs - “Prime Rainbow Conditions” and “Queen of the Local”, the latter of which was successfully crowdfunded in March 2023. Porter tours extensively around her home state of Virginia, spotlighting other overlooked voices in the state, as well as curating a monthly Americana showcase at The Golden Pony in Harrisonburg, Virginia called "Honky Tonk Nights". With completely independent legwork, Porter's music is making rounds nationally and internationally. Audiences react wonderfully to Porter's fusion of honky tonk and singer-songwriter sounds. Porter tours with a tight, professional band, The Rhinestone Roses, but can command an audience solo if necessary. Most recently, Porter was inducted into Rissi Palmer's Color Me Country Class of 2024 and added to Good Country editor Ed Helm's playlist - Ed's Picks.

Into The Fog @ The Star Theatre

Winners of the 2021 MerleFest band competition, Into The Fog is a psychedelic jamgrass band from Raleigh, North Carolina that combines timeless songwriting with progressive instrumentation and tight harmonies. The group consists of Brian Stephenson (acoustic guitar), Winston Mitchell (mandolin), Derek Lane (upright bass), and Connor Kozlosky (electric guitar), with everyone contributing on vocals. The Freeway Jubilee @ The Star Theatre

Dedicated song crafting has always been the cornerstone of The Freeway Jubilee. Lyrics and song melodies that evoke true to life experiences and feelings have always been at the band's forefront. Since childhood, the band and song catalog has always been built on a unique and collaborative effort between twin brothers Adam and Jonathan Clayton. Since 2009 the brothers have maintained a heavy tour schedule, since their inception, and forged a true brotherhood on the road with various lineup incarnations. Always striving to evoke joyful emotions to their listeners, the band continues to use their lyrics and powerful blood harmonies as a window into the human experience and the life of a traveling band on the current American landscape. Their refreshing and explosive blend of southern rock, gospel roots, mountain music, country, blues, funk and soul translates into a genre-dissolving sound that feels strangely familiar yet remains entirely unique to itself.

Holler Choir @ The Star Theatre

Led by the lyrical craftsmanship of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Clint Roberts, the distinctly Appalachian, old-time sound of Asheville’s Holler Choir combines haunting harmonies, stirring string compositions, and heart-wrenching ballads, yet hardly conforms to a stereotypical genre. Call it a confluence of old-time, Americana, and bluegrass, but, by its own exceptional design, the sound and atmosphere of Holler Choir are singular. Robert’s wordcraft and explosive vocal range is met with the dulcet clawhammer banjo plucking of long-time collaborator Helena Rose and the sturdy timekeeping of upright bassist Norbert McGettigan. With a rotating cast of gifted musicians featured on Holler Choir’s recordings and electrifying live performances, it’s no wonder they are the band to watch in 2024.
